Marasco Wins 2010 Strickland Stakes

April 6th, 2010

While the feature Easter racing was taking place at Sydney’s Royal Gardens Racecourse on Saturday, Perth’s Ascot Racecourse was host to its own day of racing leading up to the Autumn Racing Carnival, and saw Marasco win the illustrious Group 3 Strickland Stakes (1800m).

The Ascot-based gelding has now won his two last races, and fulfilled expectations as he won on Saturday, going into the race as favourite.

Returning to challenge his title, Tarzi finished in second spot in the 2010 Strickland Stakes, after losing his lead fifty metres from the finish.

It is the ninth time Marasco has beaten Tarzi in 12 starts.

Doyoudare came in third position in the small field of six, and took the pacemaker role, but could not break Tarzi’s pace.

The 2010 Strickland Stakes was the only Group event to take place on Saturday at Ascot, however there were a number of quality races, with four Black Type Listed events run.
