This Saturday the 3rd of April will see the running of the Group 3 Strickland Stakes (1800m), forming part of the lead-up to the Perth Autumn Racing Carnival, and will take place at the highly regarded Ascot Racecourse in WA’s state capital.

The 2010 Strickland Stakes will see a small field of six horses compete over the 1,800 metres for a share in the $125,000 prize purse.

Last year’s runner up in the Strickland Stakes, Tarzi, has drawn the inside barrier, and will look for the win in 2010.

Last year’s runner up in the Strickland Stakes, Tarzi, has drawn the inside barrier and will be looking for the win at the 2010 Strickland Stakes. The Desert Prince gelding recently finished second to Marasco in the Group 3 Hyperion Stakes (1400m) – with the winner starting this Saturday from the fifth barrier.

Doyoudare, trained by Allan Macpherson, is starting on the outside of Tarzi, and after finishing fifth in the Hyperion Stakes may benefit with the inside advantage.

Ascot-based Star Risca is a known stayer, having won the 1,800 metre Listed Detonator Stakes, at the Ascot ground earlier this year.

The Strickland Stakes will be the only Group race to take place in Perth this weekend, however the race card is of quality events as four Black Type Listed races will also fill the day.
